A Letter to Panelists, DMs, and Merchants

About Rocky Con

This convention is a fundraiser for the Rocky Mountain Behavior Institute, a nonprofit whose mission is to conduct and translate research in the field of student behavior intervention for practitioner use in the classroom as well as providing Special Education/Related Services for rural schools in the Mountain West.

The convention is a two-day event on Sep 20-21 at the Event Center at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds in Hamilton. The convention games will be board, mini, and card games and not video games. We’re expecting about 250 attendees.

The Committee

We are a small group of local geeks in Hamilton and Corvallis who primarily play D&D, and Magic and have dabbled in a couple of other TTRPGs like Pathfinder and Daggerheart’s beta. The majority of us have not attended a convention before.

What We Need

  • Advice!
  • GMs to run events
  • Panelists
  • And of course all the things that any nonprofit fundraiser needs: sponsors, volunteers, donated raffle items/games, committee members, and vendors.

What We Can Provide

Any GM that runs a game will get a free badge to attend the convention. As a GM, you will be part of the very first Rocky Con which means your choices will steer the vibe of this convention. You have the opportunity to make this convention rock for our local community.

Current State

We are in the early stages of planning the convention and have decided on the following:

  • Events we want to host: Scheduled games, pick up games / open play, panel discussions, workshops, learn to play / demos / play & win, cosplay contest. We will not have tournaments.
  • Dates and location: Sep 20-21, setup on Sep 19. Event Center at Ravalli Fairgrounds in Hamilton.
  • Tavern with beer, wine, nonalcoholic drinks, food trucks and local vendors (especially game stores).
  • Badge price will include all events (there will be no upcharges except for food, merch, or vendor booths once attendees are inside).
  • We will use Sched for badge sales and the event platform.
  • A game library is in our plans but we currently have a very limited selection. Game Masters will need to supply their own gaming materials.
